Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training for Carers (27th & 28th June 2017)

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training for Carers (27th & 28th June 2017)

About ASIST

The Applied Suicide Interventions Skills Training (ASIST) is an intensive, participatory workshop where you will develop practical skills in suicide intervention.  ASIST helps you to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and how to work with them to increase their immediate safety and get further help.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged 12 to 44 years and men are three times more likely to die by suicide. Most people will be affected by the suicide of someone they know at some point in their life.

This is the second time that ASIST has been run specifically for Carers at Carers NT.  On the first occasion it was performed sensitively and with great success.

Suicide has a devastating impact on families and our community and it is not uncommon to hear it said, "if only I had known how she/he was feeling, I would have told them I care, I understand and I'll help. To gain the confidence, knowledge and skills I recently attended an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training course (ASIST), hosted by Carers NT. Having completed this excellent course I can now say, I feel equipped and confident. The ASIST training, I believe is a valuable life skill and would be of enormous support in our various roles as a parent or carer, worker and friend. The training will give you the confidence and skills to have the conversation with the person you are concerned about. The skills you learn will support them to find a pathway back to life. - NT Carer who attended ASIST in October 2016
