National Carers Week

Every year in the third week in October, people right around the country recognise and celebrate the valuable contribution unpaid carers make to our community and our nation.

National Carers Week

About National Carers Week

This is the biggest and busiest week of the year for the team here at Carers NT!

There are some 2.8 million unpaid carers in Australia. In 2015, those carers put in 1.9 billion hours of unpaid care—a value of $60.3 billion if the government had to pay for it. That’s equivalent to 3.8% of Australia’s GDP and 60% of the health and social work industry.

We're asking everyone to get involved in National Carers Week by attending or hosting a ‘take a break’ event. This can be a morning tea, an afternoon tea, a walk or some other activity.

Help raise awareness this National Carers Week by rounding up employees, workmates, friends and family for a ‘take a break’ event and draw attention to who carers are, what they do and how they can access services and support.

Organise a morning or afternoon tea, fundraiser or workshop to raise awareness of the diversity of carers and caring roles in the Northern Territory.

Carers NT offers grants of $250 to carer support groups and organisations to host events and activities for carers during National Carers Week.

Hosting an event is a wonderful way to give unpaid family carers a much-needed break and acknowledge their valuable contribution to the community.

Many events attract new members to carer support groups and are a great way of reaching out to other carers in your area.
