Youth Mental Health First Aid for Carers (20th and 21st September 2017)

Youth Mental Health First Aid for Carers (20th and 21st September 2017)

About Youth Mental Health First Aid and this Course Offering

Research demonstrates that 1 in 7 primary school aged children and 1 in 4 secondary school aged children will experience a mental health related problem and that early intervention reduces the recurrence and secondary impacts of mental illness across an individuals lifespan.

Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, or who is in a mental health crisis (e.g., the person is suicidal or has had a traumatic experience).  Like physical first aid, mental health first aid is given until the person receives professional help or until the crisis resolves.  Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches adults how to respond to a young person with a mental health related problem.

Mental Health First Aid strategies are taught in evidence-based training courses authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and delivered by accredited MHFA Instructors across the country.  Carers NT offer MHFA Courses as authored by MHFA Australia, delivered by instructors who are currently accredited by MHFA Australia.
