Recognising the NT’s carer friendly businesses
15 October, 2018
Three Territory businesses have been recognised in a formal Award ceremony tonight at Parliament House for their help and understanding of the needs of carers in the Northern Territory.
The Carer Friendly Business Awards recognise outstanding service that has made a positive impact and difference to someone in their caring role or for employers who demonstrate an understanding of the needs of a carer.
Recipients of the 2018 Carer Friendly Business Awards are:
- Carer Friendly Employer – GHD, Brian Webster
- Carer Friendly Service – Nightcliff Plumbing
- Carer Friendly Employee – Dr Sandy Smirk, Royal Darwin Hospital
Nominations for the Awards were received from Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs.
Sally Morris, a member of the judging panel, said that it was not an easy task determining the winners.
“Every one of the nominees should be congratulated on the contribution they make to carers’ lives. These awards recognise professionals who work tirelessly to improve the lives of carers and we congratulate them for the contribution they make to their individual lives.”
Carers NT CEO Steve Vitone also congratulated all nominees in the Awards.
“With an estimated 30,000 carers in the Northern Territory, nearly everyone knows someone who’s a carer or relies on one, and it’s inevitable that each of us will be a carer at some stage of our life.
“Having businesses that understand the needs of carers is vital, as a society we need to be more understanding, more accommodating, and more flexible in how we interact and support carers. These Awards focus on the businesses and people that take that extra step and provide employment support or service to our carers, I commend them.
“Congratulations also to our recipients tonight, at Carers NT we have a vision to be part of a community in which carers are recognised and valued as a significant asset in which they have access to timely and appropriate services. Thank you, you are helping make that a reality.”
